Anna Lindal
Anna Líndal is a Reykjavík-based visual artist whose research-driven practice explores the intersections of science, nature, and human systems. Drawing on fieldwork, collaborations with scientists, and her own experiences in natural environments, she investigates how measurement, scale, and temporality shape our understanding of the world. Her work considers the relationship between human and geological timescales, revealing the interconnectedness and fragility of everyday life, natural and societal processes.
Líndal studied at the Icelandic College of Art and Crafts, the Slade School of Fine Art, London, and earned an Advanced Master of Research in Art and Design at St Lucas University College of Art & Design, Antwerp.
She has exhibited widely in Iceland and internationally, including the Istanbul Biennial (1997), the Kwangju Biennial (2000), and the Reykjavík Arts Festival (2005). In 2017, the Reykjavík Art Museum presented a mid-career retrospective of her work, the first in its ongoing series highlighting significant Icelandic artists. Her work is currently featured in Second Nature: Photography in the Age of the Anthropocene, an international touring exhibition co-organized by the deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum and the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University, US (2024–2026). Líndal was Professor of Fine Art at the Iceland University of the Arts (2000–2009) and has served as Research Professor since 2026.
